TODAY: Honor flight heads to D.C. after cancelled two weeks ago

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A second chance to visit the nation's capitol.

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight had to cancel two weeks ago because of fog.

But they were able to reschedule for today.

This morning, 86 veterans are leaving from the Eastern Iowa Airport and heading to Washington D.C.

The good news is most of the veterans that were supposed to be on the flight two weeks ago were able to make it out today.

They will be visiting different memorials at the nation's capitol built in their honor. They will also be doing a wreath laying at the Arlington National Cemetery.

The wreath laying is an opportunity the honor flight was worried about missing because they had to reschedule. Usually, you have to book a wreath laying at the Arlington National Cemetery a year in advance.

If everything goes as planned, the veterans are expected to return home to the Eastern Iowa Airport around 10:15 tonight. Everyone is welcome to come out and greet them. Parking is free.

On this flight, there are two World War II veterans, 28 Korean War Veterans, and 56 Vietnam veterans.
