"Too many lives lost," Dubuque man in Las Vegas for conference

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Too many innocent lives lost.

That's what a man from Dubuque says, who's staying at a hotel in Las Vegas right now.

Gary Harjehausen says he traveled from Dubuqe to Las Vegas for a conference this week.

He says he's not staying in the Mandalay Palace where the shooter was, but he's in a hotel close by.

He says he remembers being in the strip near the concert-area yesterday.

All of a sudden, many of the hotels and casinos went into lock down. The airport did as well.

Gary  adds that everyone was told to stay put while all this was going on.

Now today, he hasn't left his hotel room at all.

He says a lot of people don't want to leave their hotel rooms. He sent KWWL pictures of the scene outside his hotel room this morning. You can see there are very few cars on the road. It seems eerily quiet.

Gary says he's not sure whether or not his conference this week has been canceled or postponed..
