Good Evening I'm Rick Coleman here with UNI Head Football Coach Mark Farley... The Panthers are coming off a bye week and now getting into the conference play...But coach during the bye week I know you love to coach and teach you go out there its like you are giving a lecture on the football field during the offseason when you are preparing the guys what went into the last couple of weeks with the Northern Iowa Football team?...

Coach Farley: You know what you emphasize is what you get---so you go back to the details and fundamentals and techniques...more so than the plays--sometimes you assume they know what they are doing..its more how you get it done that is more important--so we really went back to the fundamentals of the game..

Rick: I know you probably looked at some tape too---this team seem to grow thru the first three games--the defense the last game and a half played lights out going into the bye week and the Offense did some good things what are some of the things you would like to improve on offense, defense and special teams?

Coach Farley: We need to play more in rhythm more to complement the offense and the defense...and in particular we need to do a better job in coverage on defense and in our running game on offense--so we went back and looked at that got some people healthy--bodies back--also we went back to find out what we can do better sometimes there just some small things you can do better to make a big difference in the game..

Rick Now you have a tough test in Carbondale, Illinois to face a very good Southern Illinois team that's coming off a tough loss 44-31 at Memphis and the week before Memphis upset #25 UCLA...

Coach Farley Yeah they are a very confident football team they had two early wins in non-conference games they did a great job in and had a chance to beat Memphis so they're very confident--they are getting back home getting the first home game we are in the league right now everything matters we are into conference play and you really have to do a great job whether you are at home or on the road...

Rick They've got a good quarterback Sam Straub from Ames I know you looked at him on the recruiting trail...has just thrown three interceptions this year no interceptions against Memphis but he threw four touchdown passes,,

Coach Farley Well he did a great job and we were looking at him the same time we were looking at Eli Dunn---as you watched him he is really a big strong armed quarterback very athletic he also played basketball at Ames High School, played football--it was a tough choice--he is doing a great job a great drop back thrower

Rick You have always put an emphasis on winning Conference football games--obviously they go along way toward winning the conference championship but also making the playoffs--Winningest Conference coach of all time--I didn't know that before hand but that is pretty good...coach

Coach Farley Well we have been very fortunate we have had a lot of players and coaches that have come through here and helped us do all those things

but right now what matters is this team is running this race and we have to make sure we have them ready to play and they have to go out and play with emotion...

Rick Coach team going on the road to face Southern Illinois tough test for your team---Good Luck Coach...

Thank You...
