Fundraiser on Friday for teens killed, injured in Iowa County crash

Posted: Updated:
NORTH ENGLISH (KWWL) -

A fundraiser will be held in North English on Friday for two of the three teens killed in a crash last week in Iowa County as well as one that survived.

18-year-old Chad Owens, 19-year-old Michael Galyon and 19-year-old Kaitlyn Cook were killed after the car they were in overturned into an Iowa County creek.

21-year-old Anna Townsend was also in the car, she survived and was airlifted to a hospital.

Galyon was from Williamsburg and we are told there will be a separate fundraiser for him on October 14th.

According to investigators it happened sometime between 10:30 p.m. Thursday and early Friday afternoon on 240th Street near G Avenue.

"Our students and staff are feeling the effects of the recent tragic loss of Chad Owens, a 2017 graduate of English Valleys and Kaitlyn Cook, a 2016 graduate of English Valleys.

Our thoughts are also with 2016 graduate Anna Townsend and her family at this time as she recovers from her injuries.

Words cannot express the heartache and sorrow our English Valleys family is going through right now,"  said a release from English Valley High School.

The fundraiser and tailgate will happen at St. Joseph's Catholic Church ahead of the English Valley homecoming game.

People can give free will donations and there will be food.

"As a community, we are heartbroken, this is a tragedy in every sense of the word.

Small schools and communities are big families, Chad, Kaitlyn, Anna and their families are our friends, our kids friends, we watched them grow-up, we see them at the grocery store, Casey's, school events and working in the communities often, if not daily.

When tragedy strikes everyone wants to "do" something, this event was one thing we could do to come together and show our love and support for our kids and their families," says fundraiser organizer Melissa Kingland.

Monetary donations can also be sent to the EV Booster Club at 30376 110th St. South English, IA 52335.

We are told donations will be split evenly between recipients.
