A man convicted in 2015 of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in a Marion Hy-Vee parking lot is getting a new trial and this time it will not be in Linn County.

The change of venue was granted Tuesday but it's unknown at this time where the trial will take place.

Nicholas Luerkens was convicted of First Degree Murder for the 2015 killing, but he appealed his conviction claiming the jury should have been instructed to consider his insanity defense.

29-year-old Lynnsey Donald was stabbed dozens of times outside of the grocery store in front of her 7-year-old son.
