UPDATE:

KWWL reached out to Michael Mahoney's attorney, Chris Stewart of the Parrish Kruidenier Law Firm in Des Moines.

He said the process initiated by the Board of Educational Examiners regarding Mahoney’s professional conduct is in its early stages.

"We are confident that once all the facts are known it will be clear to the Board, the administrative law judge, and the public that Mr. Mahoney has committed no wrongdoing. His interactions with students have been nothing but professional; he denies all allegations to the contrary."

His attorney also said they plan to file a motion to dismiss the allegations, or a motion for a more definite and detailed statement of allegations.

Wahlert Catholic High School declined to comment.

A former Wahlert teacher is accused of soliciting "romantic and otherwise inappropriate relationship with a student" according to documents from the Board of Educational Examiners.

Michael Mahoney will appear before the board next month on Oct. 24 for a hearing related to the accusation.

According to the documents, an investigation revealed Mahoney communicated with individual female students through social media, gave students inappropriate gifts and encouraged and fostered inappropriate relationships with female students during the 2016-17 school year.

Mahoney was teaching social studies and religion at Wahlert High School during that time, and served as a technology integration coach as well.

The complaint was received June 13, and the state board found probable cause to proceed to hearing in early August.

Mahoney resigned in June.
