Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine say they may have found a way to detect CTE in living people.
Right now, the degenerative brain disease tied to concussions, has only been able to be detected through autopsies.
The scientists say there is a possible bio-marker present in the body that could be tied to CTE.
They studied the brains of 23 former college and professional players; they compared those samples to non-football players, as well as, people with Alzheimer's disease.
There was a certain bio-marker that was elevated in the former football players, but not in the others.
The research is very early at this point, but it means doctors could, someday, be able to diagnose CTE while patients are still alive.
