Waverly-Shell Rock rolls past Benton Community 45-7

Ninth ranked Waverly-Shell Rock enters the fifth week of the season unbeaten after beating its first four opponents by an average of 39 points a game.

The Go-Hawks expected a challenge from Benton Community which comes in with a 2-2 record

Friday was hot and steamy...and the Waverly defense came out hot and ready for a homecoming battle.

Benton Bobcats fumbled on the first play of the game. Quarterback Spencer Touro never gets a good grip on the ball. The Go-Hawks recover at the Bobcat 18-yard line.

Waverly's first play from scrimmage was a go-route and go they did!  Luke Velky finds Brandon Holmquist in the back of the endzone. 7-zip with only nine ticks off the clock.

Fast forward five minutes in the first quarter, the Go-Hawks are forced to punt...Jordan Gayer hits a very directional kick trapping the runner along the sideline and he fumbles it...that's right another fumble...Brandon Hinders for Waverly, who kicks field goals also recovers fumbles.

Two plays later, first and goal from the one number 40, Gabriel Santoiemma scores putting the Go-Hawks in front 14-zero.

In the second quarter, Waverly doesn't slow down, Velky looks deep and finds Holmquist on the right side for a 29-yard pick up to the 16 of Benton.  Four plays later big number 40 , Santoeiemma, gets his number called again for a touchdown from five yards out. 21-0 with 8:56 left in the second quarter. It was 35-7 at the half and he final was Waverly 45 Benton Community 7.
