The Cedar Valley Hospice 6th annual Release and Remember fundraiser on Sunday, September 10 raised over $60,000.  The large sum was raised through the donations of individuals, churches and business partners, along with a record-setting 669 donors from 19 states.

The large crowd gathered at the banks of the Cedar River to honor their loved ones with the release of 1,000 monarch butterflies.  For $25, a person could dedicate one of the butterflies to the memory of a loved one.

KWWL's Abby Turpin served as the emcee for the event.  Speeches were given by Cedar Valley Executive Director, Michaela Vandersee, Development Director, Chris Olds, and Director of Marketing, Jennifer Siech.

“My darling husband spent his last week in your hospice care. That was 2 years ago. Today would have been our 19th anniversary. Thank you for all you did for us and for this wonderful event,” commented Jennifer Reef on Facebook.

Funds raised will help support the mission, programs and services offered by the not-for-profit organization. The event also provides Cedar Valley Hospice the opportunity to educate the community about its services through hospice and palliative care, community-wide grief support and case management for those with HIV or AIDS, according to CVH.
