Three non profit organizations coming together to help kids

A recent recipient of fundraising by the "100 Women Who Care Organization," donated some of it's money to Family & Children's Council.

Sing Me to Heaven, a La Porte City based non-profit, covers all funeral expenses when there is the death of a child. Many times, the funeral is for a child who dies at the hands of someone else.

“I received a call from Sing Me to Heaven and they told me they want to really invest in another local organization that works to prevent a tragedy from happening…and that’s exactly what Family & Children’s Council does,” said Amanda Goodman, Executive Director of Family & Children’s Council of Black Hawk County.

FCC is the only organization in Black Hawk County that works to prevent child abuse. Black Hawk County currently ranks as one of the highest counties in the state when it comes to reporting child abuse cases.

“For Sing Me to Heaven to be willing to say ‘hey, we believe in what you are doing and we want to be a part of it,’ it was overwhelming. They’re setting the example of what really needs to be done. It’s important that no what part of town we live in, what our economic or educational background is, that we realize there is an immediate need for us to protect our children.  Because right now in Black Hawk County, hundreds and hundreds of children are at risk for child abuse…and that is unacceptable. We need to take the blindfolds off and come from behind the white picket fence,” said Goodman.

Plans are in place for a much larger collaboration between Family & Children's Council of Black Hawk County, Sing Me to Heaven and Knox Blox.
