Platteville Police alert public about fake money

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (KWWL) -

Police in Platteville, Wisconsin are on the lookout for counterfeit dollar bills.

They say multiple small businesses in town were victims of fake money, during the past three weeks.

Some were fast food restaurants. The fake money was also used at the Platteville Dairy Days festival. "$10, $20, and $50 bills...They were single purchases, so nobody is out a huge dollar amount, but any loss still hurts any local business," said sergeant Andrea Droessler.

Authorities say right they don't have any leads on who is doing this. But if you comes across someone using fake bills, you should  call police as soon as possible.

They say some security features to look for are, the size of the bills -- real money is just over six inches long and two inches wide.  Also, look for the watermark. Another feature is color shifting ink.
