Change in dress code? Iowa school might change policy after seeing girl's shirt

Posted: Updated:

The shirt an Iowa student wore to school could change the dress code policy at her high school.

Emily Engelman wore an off-the-shoulder shirt to Nevada High School. A school employee said the shirt is inappropriate; the high school handbook states shirts without straps are not allowed.

Engelman said the shirt made her feel confident, and said she didn't know it broke the rules.

Instead of punishing the student, Nevada's principal might revise the policy.

"We want every student to be comfortable in their own skin and if this rule is something that is taking that away from students, then I think it's something we have to look at," Kody Asmus said.

Asmus said they will having a meeting, so students can give their insight about the dress code.
