Cedar Falls kindergarteners training service dog "Victor"

Posted: Updated:

Some eastern Iowa Kindergarteners are training a service dog.

And in this case, the dog becomes the student.

It's called "Victor's Quest."

Cedar Heights Elementary teacher Marit Beisner  is fostering a service dog.

She brings the dog in to her kindergarten class every week.

Together, she and the students work together to train the black Labrador.

His name is Victor. Eventually, Victor will go to Retrieving Freedom in Waverly, where he will help a military veteran, a child with autism, or someone with diabetes.

Victor has to complete about two years of training before he can become a service dog.

While the kindergarteners are teaching Victor, they are also learning a lot of their own skills. Victor is helping them with math, spelling, reading, basic life skills, and more.
