American Legion Anniversary Celebration

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

This weekend, area veterans invite the community to celebrate with them.

The Waterloo American Legion Becker Chapman Post 138 is celebrating its second anniversary in the new building at 728 Commercial Street with live music, food, and drinks.

The Saturday event will feature the local rock and blues band, '3rd Street Band.' The American Legion will be selling food, drinks, as well as 50/50 drawing and raffle tickets.

The event is a fundraiser for the American Legion. The post's building needs a new roof. The current roof leaks and has caused damage to the ceiling.

Board of Trustees member,Steve Grimm, says the move and updates have cost the veterans' organization more than expected.

"So we spent thousands and thousands of dollars that we really, basically didn't have. The money from the relocation just didn't cover our expenses. The people that we owe money to have been very generous. They aren't charging us a lot of interest. But we do need to get them paid off and that is what we need to raise money for," said Grimm.

The veterans promise a fun time with tasty food and good music.

The event starts at 6 p.m. with a Flag Raising Ceremony and a Honor Guard Salute to past and present soldiers and veterans.

The American Legion wants to thank the many surrounding businesses for their support and generosity.
