Dubuque non-profit raises more than $13,000 for families fighting cancer

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A recently started non-profit, aiming to ease the sting of cancer, recently raised more than $13,000 and will start looking to help families in the tri-states soon.

Ron Avery started the foundation to help cancer patients with some of the unseen costs of the disease--things like travel, meals and lodging for treatment.

Avery started the foundation in honor of his late brother James and late sister Julie, who died of cancer in 2015 and 1982, respectively.

Because they were able to raise such a large amount of money, grant applications will be available by Nov. 1 of this year at www.averyfndtn.org.
