Iowa National Guard sending 4 helicopters, 19 soldiers to Florida

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Today, the Iowa National Guard is sending a team to Florida to support the response to Hurricane Irma.

The team is made up of 19 soldiers and 4 helicopters.

They will move supplies, equipment and people. The team will also support search and rescue operations.

Eight soldiers and one helicopter will be leaving from Waterloo.

Irma is now a tropical storm.

So far, there are no reports of any deaths in Florida because of the storm, but there's a lot of damage.

This morning, the National Guard is evacuating more than 120 homes near Orlando because of flooding.

Also, millions of people across the state are without power.
