Cedar Falls football banks on experience

Posted: Updated:

The Cedar Falls Tigers are looking to a wealth of experience to guide them through the 2017 campaign.

Head coach Brad Remmert returns a squad that sports 15 returning starters and 23 letter winners. A big number of those returners sit on the Tigers' offensive line, where they expect to do some damage this season. They'll be protecting a second year starter in senior quarterback Luke Gillett.

“Last year we really had zero offensive line starters coming back and this year we have four,” said head coach Brad Remmert, “So, between having a quarterback that has some experience and returning some of that offensive, line that's been able to allow us to progress a little bit faster in the preseason.”

“That puts a lot of confidence in my boat,” agreed Gillett, “just being able to know that they're going to do their job up front so I can find my reads and hit my receivers.”

Cedar Falls also returns experience up front on the defensive side of the ball where multiple sophomores saw action a year ago. That gives others, like senior and three year starting defensive end Colin Klatt, a lot of confidence in their abilities.

“It's definitely going to give us an edge over other teams especially knowing we have those players that have that varsity experience,” said Klatt, “It's going to be an exciting year for tiger football, not just this year, but next year also.”

The Tigers open the season against Fort Dodge in the UNI-Dome on Friday night.
