Cedar Falls City Council discussing future of fireworks

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

I literally dropped and hit the ground.

That's how one Vietnam veteran described his 4th of July to the Cedar falls City Council last night.

The city continues to debate what to do about fireworks.

A few weeks ago, a Cedar Falls committee recommended a ban on fireworks.

But last night, the city council said they still don't know what to do.

The city council saying this after listening to a number of people.

One Vietnam veteran supports a fireworks ban, saying near the 4th of July, he, "Honest to God felt like he was back in Vietnam."

A man who is against the fireworks ban says of the 40,000 people living in Cedar Falls, there were only 60 complaint phone calls.

He believes a "complete ban" is excessive," and he said the city council shouldn't take freedom away after we just got it.

In the end, the city council voted 6 to 1, to send this topic back to a committee to be talked about again.
