One month after tornado, McGregor remains resilient

Posted: Updated:

Saturday marks one month since an EF-1 tornado hit the river town of McGregor in Clayton County.

The town is moving forward, and putting the storm behind them.

The storm ripped through Main Street McGregor on July 19th, causing major damage. Historic buildings were destroyed, including the John Goedert building. What remained had to be torn down.

Mayor Harold Brooks tells KWWL improvements are happening everyday. People are rebuilding damaged houses, and businesses.

There has also been a tremendous amount of outreach. Friday morning, a breakfast benefit was held -- the money going towards the Restore McGregor Fund. So far, $34,000 has been raised from private donations and area businesses.

Next week, a group will get together to decide how to disperse the money to those affected by the storm damage.

Mayor Brooks encourages people to visit McGregor, saying businesses have reopened.
