DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Seven members of an AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps team moved into the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium this week to help them get some big projects done.

The team is helping to beautify a part of the building where a cooling tower was recently installed.

"To make this into a sustainable ecosystem for the tourists to come and really appreciate what a wetland looks like, and see the different species," said Josh Richards with AmeriCorps.

They're also helping to reestablish some wildlife that was lost during the installation of that equipment.

"When they brought everything in here, they had to bring in heavy equipment, which compacted the ground. And they had to get rid of a lot of the local species here, and we're here to help put those local species back," Richards said.

The team has moved into the museum, and will spend two weeks before moving onto their next site.

They worked at Flint, Michigan before coming to Dubuque.
