"All the respect in the world for her," Waterloo Columbus High's first female running back

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

An eastern Iowa football player is getting some attention.

Waterloo's Columbus High School has a girl on the team, and she's going to be a running back.

Janiya Labeaux is entering her freshman year at Columbus High school.

She's 5 foot, one inch. Although she might be a little shorter  than some of the other players, she doesn't let them get in her way.

She's been playing football pretty much her whole life.  She was on the Bunger Middle School team.

It's pretty early in the season, but Coach Schmidt says he's excited for this year. He thinks she's an important part of this team.

He also believes that she is the first female football player ever at Columbus High School.
