Governor stands by DOT license plate designer

Posted: Updated:

The designer for Iowa's new license plates is speaking out, after getting hit with negative feedback.

And now, she has the governor's support.

Iowa DOT employee Christina Andersen says she created three potential new license plate designs that are being voted on at the Iowa State Fair.

She posted on Facebook about her frustration with the many negative and hateful comments from Iowans about the designs.

Andersen writes the criticism went too far, saying she's been told she has the talent of a third grader and should be fired from her job.

She says some of the comments she's received range from stinging to quote "an absolute gut punch."

Andersen also further explains the designs and the restrictions she faced.

According to the Des Moines Register, Governor Kim Reynolds stands behind Andersen, asking Iowans to not engage in online bullying.

Reynolds also said it's OK to have an opinion, but it's not OK to make them personal.

Iowans have until august 20th to vote what license plate design they like the best.
