Phone app helps Frederika cafe catch burglars

FREDERIKA (KWWL) -

Three people are arrested after a string of break-ins.

And now, a phone app is helping police catch the suspects.

The owners of Hawke's Nest Cafe in Frederika are grateful they took some extra safety measures.

They have an app on their phones that's connected to security cameras in their store.

The app sends them alerts when it detects movement. It captures not just video, but also audio.

Last Wednesday morning, Allen and Shellie Hawke woke up to an alert on their phone around 3:20. They checked their app and saw flashlights and two men in their cafe.

They immediately called police, and law enforcement was able to catch the burglars within hours.

They say the app was a big help in this case.

The owners of Hawke's Nest Cafe say they  just bought the new surveillance cameras and app a few months ago.

They are very grateful to law enforcement for all their hard work with this and for responding so quickly.

Hawke's Nest Cafe was able to open back up last week. Click here to learn more about the cafe and to see their hours.

The cafe opened May 03, 2016 serving breakfast all day with full menu option for Lunch and Dinner.
