Car plunges into Mississippi River, driver survives

LANSING (KWWL) -

A woman survived after her car went into the Mississippi River in Lansing on Monday.

The Allamakee County Sheriff's Office says there was a report of a car in the water off Front Street in Lansing around 5:30 p.m.

The sheriff's office says 51-year-old Michelle Timmons from McGregor was able to get out of the car and swim. Other people helped her out of the water.

Witnesses say Timmons then left the scene.

She was later found and taken into custody.

The car was pulled out of the water at 10:30 p.m.

A dog that was inside the car had drowned.
