Posted: Updated:

After four days of the Iowa Secretary of State's annual State Fair Straw Poll, Governor Kim Reynolds and Democratic challenger Nate Boulton are the leading vote-getters in the race for governor.

Reynolds has gotten 78 percent of the vote from Republicans, while Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett has gotten 11 percent of the vote.

On the Democratic side, Boulton has gotten 39 percent of the vote, while Fred Hubbell is second with 18 percent.

“Voting can be fun and we use the State Fair Straw Poll as a way to encourage voting and engagement in elections,” Secretary Paul Pate said. “It’s purely for entertainment purposes and not scientific, but I do believe the poll provides some interesting insight.”

When it comes to food, fair-goers say pork chop on a stick is best, garnering 26 percent of the vote so far.  Cookies in a cup and corn dog bring up second and third, getting 17 and 16 percent of the vote respectively.

University of Iowa mascot Herky leads the favorite college mascot category with 40 percent of the vote. Iowa State University mascot Cy is in a close second with 37 percent.

More than 1,000 have voted so far.

You can cast your vote at the secretary's booth inside Varied Industries Building.
