Motorcyclist hit by car in Linn County

LINN COUNTY -- A man is in the hospital after being hit by a car in Linn County.

It happened on Friday around 8:45 a.m. in the 7000 block of Ely Road.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office says 38-year-old Barry Randall of Marion was heading southbound on Ely Road and made a U turn. That is when he hit 23-year-old Austin Schminkey who was heading northbound on a motorcycle. Schminkey was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Randall was not hurt and was issued a citation for an unsafe turn.

Randall was wearing his seat belt and Schminkey was wearing a helmet when the accident happened.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.
