$26,000 raised in an hour for local child with cancer

The Cedar Valley raised thousands of dollars in just an hour for a local girl diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer.

KWWL first introduced you to three-year-old Evie when she received a life-saving multi-organ transplant in July.

Now, a month later, Evie is starting another round of chemotherapy.

Thursday, the Cedar Valley 100 Plus Men & Women Who Care held their quarterly meeting and voted to donate the $16,000 raised at the meeting to help pay for Evie's medical bills.

Then in a surprise donation, the Black Hawk Gaming Association made a bonus donation of $10,000, bringing the total raised to $26,000.

"It means everything. The outreach and the support has been astronomical; much more than anyone could imagine. It is truly humbling," said Cory Coleman, Evie's mom's boyfriend who represented the family at the meeting. Evie and her mother remain in Omaha for treatment.

The $10,000 donation was part of the 10-year anniversary celebration for the Black Hawk Gaming Association.

The association plans to make nine other surprise donations throughout the year as part of the celebration.
