Bel Canto Cedar Valley is entering their sixth season, and they are holding their final days to audition for the 2017-18 season this weekend, August 12 and 13.

Bel Canto Cedar Valley is a community chamber choir serving Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Waverly, and surrounding communities.  Nicholas Klemetson will be serving his first full season as Artistic Director of Bel Canto Cedar Valley. He says the chamber choir has a newly-revised mission statement:

“Bel Canto Cedar Valley contributes to the cultural enrichment of the community by promoting quality choral music, exploring vast and varied choral repertoire, and encouraging music as a life-long passion.”

"We are passionate about music making, strive for the highest levels of quality in our art, and work to engage with and enhance the Cedar Valley arts community through collaborations with schools, churches, and other musicians in the area," said Klemetson, who is the Director of Music Ministries and Organist at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly.

This fall, Bel Canto's two primary collaborations are with the Metropolitan Chorale and Holmes Junior High School in Cedar Falls. On Tuesday, October 3, they will join Holmes at their fall concert, performing with their 7-9 grade choirs. On Sunday, November 12, they will join with the Met Chorale in performing Mozart's Requiem, and will be featured in a solo performance of Ola Gjeilo's Song of the Universal

"Additionally, we have a variety of smaller engagements this fall. Our annual tradition of performing a small holiday concert at the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls will continue this December, and we have been invited back to the Cedar Valley Christmas event hosted by the Boys and Girls Club. We will also sing the National Anthem at Wartburg College's home opener football game on September 9, and will provide pre-concert music in the lobby of Gallagher Bluedorn before the evening's Simon and Garfunkel Story concert," Klemetson said.

Klemetson says there are still some audition times left on August 12 or 13.  August 12 they will be from 12 to 3 p.m.  August 13 they are from 6 to 9 p.m.  They will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on College Street in Cedar Falls.  Auditions consist of four main parts: range testing, tonal memory, prepared piece (optional), and a brief Q&A with their Board President.  The entire process should take 10-15 minutes.  To schedule an audition for this Saturday or Sunday, visit their website here.
