The Iowa Department of Transportation announced today the public's pick for the new Iowa license plate.

According to the DOT website, the winner is the City and Country Reboot design to replace Iowa's current county standard license plate.

Three potential designs for Iowa's new license plate were unveiled today at the Iowa State Fair.

Gov. Kim Reynolds, Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg and Iowa Department of Transportation Director Mark Lowe unveiled the designs, saying they represent the elements of what makes us Iowans.

"We are patriotic," said Gov. Kim Reynolds. "We are forward thinking. We take pride in our state's natural beauty. And we embrace contributions from both the rural and urban areas of our state."

Lt. Governor Adam Gregg says the license plates offer Iowans the opportunity to display the spirit of our state wherever they go, and that each of the three designs represents the state of Iowa in its own unique way.

The design was created by the Iowa DOT graphic artist with help from the governor's office and several state agencies. The new plate will replace the county standard plate, which currently has a blue and white city and country design. There will be no change to collegiate pates or other specialty plates that do not include this design.

Iowans who currently have the standard plates will receive replacements with the new design when their current plate reaches the end of its 10-year replacement cycle. People who want a new plate sooner, can purchase a set from their local county treasurer's office for $5.
