Go-kart flips, killing 8-year-old boy

UPDATE: A family and a community are mourning the loss of an 8-year-old boy after he died in an ATV accident early this week.

The Grundy County Sheriff says 8-year-old Micah Jones was driving a 2016 Mudhead Hammerhead ATV on a farm near Cedar Falls Tuesday morning when the ATV went over a retaining wall and flipped. The sheriff says that retaining wall was four feet high.

The ATV had no damage and the sheriff says it was not impounded.

According to Waterloo Christian School, Micah's family was known by many in the school community. Ryan Hall, head of Waterloo Christian School says, "The Jones Family is in our community's thoughts and prayers during this extraordinarily difficult time." 

According to the Grundy County Sheriff Charlie Stewart, an 8-year-old from Cedar Falls, was also on the ATV. He has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The sheriff says both boys were wearing helmets.

The sheriff's office says it's still investigating the crash.
