Waterloo Police help shop for school supplies

Posted: Updated:

It's back to school in just a matter of weeks and some kids in the Cedar Valley got a little help shopping this week.

The Waterloo Police Department and Foundation held their annual 'Cool for School' shopping event.

Officers gathered at Target and shopped with more than 20 students, helping them get all the supplies they needed to have a successful school year.

Single-mother of two, Angela Johhson, says she is so thankful for the extra help.

"For a phone call, I thought I was in trouble at first; I was like, 'I didn't do anything.' But it turns out they were trying to bless my family. It  means the world to me to know that somebody wants to be able to help relieve some of the burden that is on me throughout the school year. I am blessed to have assistance and I just want to thank them for what they are doing," said Angela Johnson.

The foundation raised almost $2,500 to help the kids out, and make sure they have everything they need.
