Train hits car stuck on tracks in Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE (KWWL) -

One person has been arrested after a car was hit by a train in Belle Plaine early this morning.

Police say 20-year-old Devin Stephan, from Marengo, had been driving the car. He was not hurt.

No one on the train was injured.

Stephan was arrested for OWI.

Police say the car was stuck on the tracks at the 7th Avenue crossing around 2 a.m. when a Union Pacific train hit it.

Union Pacific says no one was in the car when the collision happened.

The scene was cleared and the train started running again a few hours later.

Streets are blocked off after a train hits a car.

The accident happened Wednesday morning in Belle Plaine.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office says the train is blocking off parts of 7th, 8th, and 9th Avenue near Main Street.

There is an underpass for cars to use for the time being.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office says they'll release more information about the accident.
