Family & Children's Council accepting nominations for Frances Mills Child Advocate Award

Posted: Updated:

Family & Children's Council of Black Hawk County is looking for nominations to award someone in the community, who has worked to make the Cedar Valley a safer and more nurturing place for children, with the Frances Mills Child Advocate Award.

Frances Mills is legend at FCC for being a leader and advocate for children. Frances helped start the FCC, served on the board and committees, and was very active in initiating the Parent to Parent program. She helped arrange access for the agency to new mothers in local hospitals, and was on the Waterloo School Board, advocating for the removal of corporal punishment.

Each year, FCC gives an award to an outstanding individual from the community who continues to do Frances' work. This award is given to someone who is passionate about helping children and families and makes a positive difference in their lives. Recipients in the award exemplify her commitment in making the world a better place for children to grow and fulfill their dreams.

The award will be presented at the Family & Children's Council Annual Fall Dinner & Auction on November 3, 2017 at the Isle Casino Hotel in Waterloo. Nominations are due by September 15 to Family and Children's Council, 2051 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo IA 50702 or emailed to
