The Red Cross has released some statistics following the recent storms and flooding in eastern Iowa.  A total of 151 cases were opened up, helping 383 people across five counties -- Bremer, Floyd, Clinton, Clayton and Chickasaw.

Two emergency shelters were opened in Charles City and Sumner.  224 meals were given to people in need, as well as snacks, water, and ice.  565 clean-up kits were sent to Bremer, Clinton and Chickasaw Counties.

Sumner City Manager Lisa Oberbroeckley said, “The Red Cross has been immensely beneficial to us here in Sumner. As soon as they got into town that first Saturday morning we had people going up to them (at the shelter) just looking for a place to be. The Red Cross was providing food and water and a lot of our citizens took advantage of it…and that allowed us city workers to focus on what we needed to do and mitigate the flood.”
