Man accused of yelling racial slurs before assault in Iowa City

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

36-year-old Jesus Estrada is accused of yelling racial slurs at a man in Iowa City before assaulting him.

It happened on Saturday. 

According to the criminal complaint, Estrada was taunting the victim and yelling racial slurs across the 300 block of E Burlington Street. 

The complaint goes on to say Estrada crossed the road and continued to yell racial slurs before punching the victim in the face until he fell to the ground. 

Estrada is accused of continuing to punch the victim while he was on the ground injuring his face, elbow and left knee. 

Police say Estrada admitted to yelling racial slurs and punching the victim. 

He was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury which is a Serious Misdemeanor. 

Estrada is being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $500 cash/surety bond.
