HAPPENING TODAY: City of Waterloo to hold final vote on traffic cameras

Posted: Updated:

Waterloo may become the first city in the county to have traffic cameras.

Tonight, the city council is set to vote for the third and final time to decide if Waterloo will get the cameras. The main goal of the traffic cameras would be to catch drivers speeding or running red lights.

If approved, the cameras would be similar to the ones in Cedar Rapids.

Drivers can receive tickets, with fees ranging from $50 to $75. Police say with each red light violation, drivers could see the fee increase.

The traffic camera ordinance will have its third and final reading during the Waterloo city council meeting tonight.
