Thief stealing onions from Cedar Falls community garden

Posted: Updated:

There's a thief in Cedar Falls stealing something unusual.

Here's a hint -- it's a type of vegetable with a lot of layers.

The Cedar Falls community garden is on the lookout for someone stealing their onions.

They believe this isn't a four-legged thief. One family noticed half the onions were missing from their garden, which is covered on all sides and on the top by bird netting.

The family says they're very disappointed because they were just about to harvest these onions.

They were one of the best things growing in their garden.

The family is not alone. The garden next to theirs also had some onions stolen. Another garden had a watermelon stolen from it.

The community garden says it's sad, but this is not the first time someone has stolen from them. It is unusual, however, that someone is targeting onions. Usually it's other fruits or vegetables that are stolen.

They are keeping an extra eye for any suspicious activity around the garden.

Despite the thief, the community garden thanks the city for all their help in keeping the garden successful.

If you see or hear anything that might help catch the onion thief, you can contact the Cedar Falls police.
