Man arrested after armed robbery at Smokin' Joe's in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Police have arrested 61-year-old Alvin Brooks after an armed robbery at Smokin' Joe's.

It happened Wednesday night around 7:15 in the 900 block of 1st Avenue NW. 

An employee tells us he had a knife but the blade was not out at the time of the robbery and no one was injured. 

Police say Brooks took cash from the store clerk. 

During their investigation police identified Brooks and wrote a search warrant for a home in the 900 block of C Avenue NW. 

Officers arrested Brooks at the home around 11 p.m.

Brooks is charged with 1st Degree Robbery, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine).

Police say he also had several warrants for 3rd Degree Theft, 4th Degree Theft, 5th Degree Theft, Providing False Identification Information and Criminal Trespass. 

He is being held at the Linn County Jail.
