CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The city of Cedar Rapids says they "deeply regret" an incident Monday that killed around 2000 fish and wildlife near McLoud Creek.

Trout and white suckers were among those killed.

Officials say a valve failed during construction work that sent hundreds of thousands of gallons of potable water into the creek.

The city says the break did not impact any drinking water.

They plan to do an evaluation to help prevent something like this from happening again.
