Former Panther Ungs joins Iowa baseball staff

Iowa baseball coach Rick Heller has named Iowa native Nic Ungs as the Hawkeyes' Director of Baseball Operations.

"It is great to have Nic join our staff," said Heller. "His skill set is perfect for what we want and need from our operations position. Having coached Nic, I know his attitude, work ethic, and attention to detail are at an elite level.  Nic is a great fit for our program and the University of Iowa."

The Dyersville Beckman graduate spent 12 years in professional baseball, reaching as high as the triple-A level in the Marlins' and Brewers' organizations. He spent nine years as the pitching coordinator at the Georgia Bombers Baseball Club where he coached 45 future division one players.

Ungs played under Heller at Northern Iowa where he was named the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year. That season he helped the Panthers to a school record 35 wins, leading the team to the NCAA regionals for the first time in program history.
