Patrol car hit during police chase in Washington County

Thankfully no one was injured on Sunday when a patrol car was hit during a police chase in Washington County.

Washington police say it all started when they were responding to a harassment report around 3:20 in the afternoon. 

About an hour later an officer spotted the 2017 silver Kia Soul they were looking for and tried to pull it over. 

Police say the car would not stop and ended up leading them on a chase for 15 minutes. 

Stop sticks were put out to end the chase in West Chester. 

During the chase someone in the Kia threw out a weapon. 

The vehicle collided with on-coming traffic at Highway 92 and Ivy Avenue before hitting a patrol car in West Chester. 

Two Linn County men were arrested. 

20-year-old Jeremy Mirkes of Marion was charged with Carrying a Weapon, Felony Eluding, Driving While Revoked, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving 
(110 in a 55 mph zone) Failure to Maintain Control and in regards to the harassment report he also faces charges of Armed with Intent and 1st Degree Harassment. 

22-year-old Zackary McElroy of Cedar Rapids was charged with Aiding and abetting, Carrying a Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana 3rd Offense) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

He was also wanted on two Linn County Warrants for Failure to appear adjudication of guilt and sentencing on the original charges of Theft 2nd, Operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and Theft 3rd degree. 

Two females were in the Kia at the time of the chase, one of them was a juvenile, neither of them are facing charges.
