Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart to seek re-election

Posted: Updated:

Mayor Quentin Hart has announced he is seeking re-election as Mayor of Waterloo.

Currently serving in his first term as mayor, Hart is a native of Waterloo.  He beat former mayor Tim Hurley in the 2015 runoff election, after serving six years as vice mayor.  Hart is the first African-American mayor of Waterloo.

Mayor Hart's campaign team has said Hart's re-election campaign is Believe Waterloo.

"It is time, as a community, we begin to truly believe in ourselves, in our ability to conquer our challenges and in the significance of our successes.  When we believe in the greatness of our community and the goodness of our people, we lay the foundations of an exciting tomorrow," Hart says.

According to his campaign release, some of Mayor Hart's first term accomplishments include efficient response to the 2016 floods, city-wide growth through economic development, 28 million dollars for University Avenue, the re-development of Logan Avenue, and the sale and re-development of the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center and hotel.

"Being Mayor for the City of Waterloo is one of the greatest honors of my life.  While we have seen significant progress, there is more work to do," says Mayor Hart.
