DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Dyersville Beckman rode the arm of Conner McDermott as the Blazers shut out Iowa City Regina 8-0 to advance to the class 2A state baseball championship.

McDermott allowed just 3 hit and struck out an impressive 13 batters in a complete game shutout performance.

The Blazers' effort was once again dedicated to Coach Tom Jenk, who hasn't been in the dugout this season due to a battle with a brain tumor. Jenk, however, has made appearances at Beckman's practices this week for the first time all season. Jenk plans on getting an ambulance ride to be at Saturday's final.

“It's a great feeling. It's been a couple years and this year it's all for Coach Jenk," said McDermott, "It's tough without him. It's not anything the same like it was last year, but we pushed through and did it for him this year.”

Sam Stelken led Beckman at the plate with a 3 for 4 performance as he drove in three runs in the win.
