Friday auction will benefit Iowa baby

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

An auction tomorrow night will benefit a Shellsburg baby who was born with heart defects.

Deacon Reuter was born in February and has spent his entire life so far at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City.

Not yet six months old, Deacon has already gone through more than many people will in their lifetime.

"181 days in intensive care here," his mother Caitlin told us.

Deacon has already had two open heart surgeries and there are plans for at least one more.

He has Oculo-Auricul Vertebral Disorder which is impacting the left side of his body.

"He only has one lung and then both of his ears didn't really form," his mom says.

Despite his ears not forming, he can still hear.

The Rock Bar American Grill in Cedar Rapids is hosting an auction on Friday night for Deacon.

The money will help with medical bills and future procedures.

"It's all going into a fund for him hopefully to one day fix his ears, things like that," Caitlin says.

Money people pay to ride the mechanical bull tomorrow will also go to the family.

Deacon is the youngest of four brothers and his siblings are ready to have him home.

His family is hoping he will be able to come home very soon.
The auction will run from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will offer a variety of items from fire pits to spa packages.
