DAY FIVE: Cyclists make the climb from Charles City to Cresco

Posted: Updated:

The weather has been absolutely perfect today, but cyclists are starting to notice the hills.

The population of Ionia nearly doubled today, as several people's yards became popular spots for cyclists to stop, cool off, eat some food, and even enjoy a pop-up concert along the trip from Charles City to Cresco.

Today, cyclists travel nearly 55 miles, and climbed more than 2,000 feet in elevation, definitely feeling the inclines today.

Ross Meany, formerly of Waterloo and now of Iowa City, says the comfortable weather is really keeping people excited.

"I think spirits are still pretty high for being this far into the week," said Meany. "It's nice that people are still amped up. Sometimes, at this point in the week, some people start to get a little tired, but we've had really good weather for the most part."

KWWL was told that Lance Armstrong is joining cyclists today for RAGBRAI, but there hasn't been a meeting set up with him just yet.

The RAGBRAI ride is wrapping up right now for the day in Cresco, and will resume tomorrow to Waukon.

Coming up at 6:00 p.m., we'll take a closer look at what RAGBRAI is all about.
