IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Children patients at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital and their families were given 500 mini-blizzards from Dairy Queen.

It's in preparation of Dairy Queen's Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, July 27. On that day, participating locations, will donate $1 or more from every blizzard to children hospitals, including the University of Iowa's.

The free blizzards were delivered by the Coralville location. They've long taken part in Miracle Treat Day but this was their first time handing out free ice cream.

"When we first got here, it was really lined up. People coming and going. So yeah, they're happy. Who doesn't love ice cream?" Chris Collum, owner of the Coralville Dairy Queen, said.

In 2016, over $4 million was raised.
