UPDATE: Python, found on hiking trail in Independence, returned to owner

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: "Loki" the ball python is back with David, his owner, after escaping and scaring some people on Liberty Trail in Independence.

David said on Facebook that he will now be using tank clips to secure Loki.

Imagine spotting this on a hiking trail.

One family in Independence called police after finding this ball python along Liberty Trail.

Police say it was taken to an animal rescue shelter. It appears that it might be someone's pet and may return home soon.

They say the snake was easy to handle and very docile.

Here's what the Independence Police Department posted on Facebook about it:

Thank you to Nicholas & his family that found & called the police to rescue this ball python laying next to the big rock on the south side of the iron bridge along Liberty Trail. It appears that the snake is beginning to shed it's skin.

The snake was taken to a animal rescue shelter until it's family realized that it's missing & hopefully be returned home. Very docile to handle.

We checked with a local female runner on the trail & she was very adamant that it did not belong to her, nor did she want it as a running partner.

I suspect all of our trail users will all be watching a little closer on where they walk along the trail.
