Portions of Heritage Trail in Dubuque County damaged, set to reopen this week

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Parts of the popular Heritage Trail, which stretches from Dubuque to Dyersville, was damaged in last week's storms and has been closed while crews work to clean it up.

According to a Facebook post on the trail's official page, large debris and several washouts were the cause of the closure.  That closure is in effect for the trail between the Heritage Pond in Dubuque and Durango.

County officials say the trail will also need a little time to dry out before new rock and limestone can be moved in to resurface parts of the trail.

They're hoping the work can be done by the end of the week, and the trail will be reopened.
