WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Waterloo City Council is considering a deal with a developer to build a downtown supermarket.

The developer, Central Holdings, LLC would like to build the store on the vacant lot next to the Franklin Street CVS near Mullan Avenue.

The city is setting a public hearing for August 7th to consider the sale of the land.

The proposed 26,000 square foot property would be built in the Walnut Neighborhood, an area the city has been working to revitalize.

Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart says the developer is hoping to break ground before the end of the summer if approved by city council.
