Update: Damage assessment underway in Sumner

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Crews say they are making progress on restoring power through the area, but a boil order is still in place.

At last check, three to four generators should be in Sumner to help generate power to put the town back on the grid.

These emergency generators will be used in town until normal operations can resume.

Power should be coming back on once the generators start running.

We are waiting to hear when these generators will be in place.

The damage assessment is underway in Sumner.

People are being asked a series of questions about damage from recent flooding.

Right now, meals and water are being provided by the Salvation Army at the Community Memorial Hospital parking lot.

At last check, the emergency evacuation shelter is open at the Chapel at Hillcrest Home.

If you need assistance with clean-up, call 319-327-4636.

Authorities are saying power could be restored to the community by midnight tonight.

Electrical panels that were exposed to water must be cleared by a licensed electrician.

If you are approached by an electrician and are unsure of their credentials, feel free to call City Hall at 563-578-5609.

White goods (appliance) stickers are available for $5 each at the Recycling Center.

White-goods must have the stickers before they will be removed. Curbside removal has begun and will continue until further notice.

For further questions, call 319-327-4636 or stop by the Sumner-Fredericksburg High School during normal business hours.

Authorities say a boil advisory remains in effect until further notice.
